Jammu, Feb 06: BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organised an exposure visit for students of Shiv Public Higher Secondary School Jammu to Saraswati Plasto Tech India Pvt. Ltd. Bari Brahmana. The objective of the visit was to make students quality-conscious by giving them exposure to a BIS-certified manufacturing unit.
Ashish Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer of JKBO, outlined the program’s objectives and provided an overview of BIS activities. He highlighted BIS’s role in safeguarding consumer rights through standards and Conformity Assessment. BIS Conformity Assessment Schemes offer third-party assurance of product quality, safety, reliability, and sustainability to consumers. Ashish encouraged students to make the most of this opportunity through active participation. Additionally, he briefed them about the goals of the standards club and upcoming competitions on Quality and Standards within each standard club.
Rajkumar, Assistant Director of JKBO briefed information regarding Hallmarking schemes as well as working of JK Referral Assaying Laboratory of BIS.
Later, Ms. Mehak Rasool, Resource Person JKBo delivered a detailed presentation on Standards Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking, and the Compulsory Registration Scheme. She provided information about government-mandated ISI mark certification for various products, such as cement, household electrical goods, LPG cylinders, domestic LPG gas stoves, air-conditioners, structural steel, helmets for 2-wheelers, toys, footwear, compounded cattle feed, and more. Furthermore, she demonstrated the BIS Care App, enabling easy access to information on Indian Standards, the authenticity of ISI-marked products, Hallmarked jewelry, and the ability to register complaints. 27 standard club students participated in the guidance of Sh. Akhil Dev Singh, Mentor of Shiv Public Higher Secondary School Jammu.
They showed keen interest in BIS activities. They appreciated the BIS initiative in organizing such exposure visits.
