Kathua, Aug 31: The eagerly awaited Kathua Softball Championship was inaugurated on Thursday, amidst great enthusiasm and fervor. The opening ceremony was graced by Er. Sandeep Majotra, DDC Nagri, Kathua, who declared the championship officially open.
Organized by the District Kathua Softball Association in collaboration with the J&K Softball Association and Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, the championship is being held at J.K. Public School, Kathua. More than 280 players across various age groups, including Sub-Junior Boys & Girls, Junior Boys & Girls, and Senior Men & Women, are participating in the two-day event.
The chief guest of the opening ceremony highlighted the significant strides taken by the government in the development and promotion of sports in the Jammu & Kashmir region. He stressed the importance of involving young players in sports, particularly softball, to counter the alarming spread of the drug menace. He commended the efforts of the organizers and assured continued support for the promotion of softball in Kathua.
Under the watchful guidance of Sh. Arun Sharma, the District Kathua Softball Association and the organizing committee have tirelessly worked towards ensuring the success of the championship. The event saw the participation of teams in different age categories, engaging in a total of 9 matches on the inaugural day.
The role of Chief Tournament Director has been assigned to Ajay Singh, an outstanding softball athlete. The technical officials, including referees and scorers, such as Sagar Chib, Pradeep Singh, and Ayush Singh Janwal, have been instrumental in ensuring the smooth conduct of the championship.
The Kathua Softball Championship 2023 promises to be a platform for nurturing sporting talent, fostering camaraderie, and strengthening the fight against social challenges through the spirit of sportsmanship.
