Srinagar, Nov 02 : Higher reaches of Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall, while rains lash plains on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has predicted improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Friday till 6th November in the region, officials said.
The present weather condition caused a dip in night temperature across the valley. Ski resort of Gulmarg was the coldest place in Kashmir with a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius and 8.0 °C as maximum temperatures on Thursday.
Director MeT Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that plains in Kashmir witnessed intermittent rains while upper reaches received moderate snowfall till Thursday late evening.
He said from November 3 to 6, the weather will remain mainly dry, and from November 7-8 , there is again a forecast of light snow over isolated higher reaches.
Dr. Mukhtar said that from 9 to 10 November, the weather will remain generally cloudy with light rain/snow over a few higher reaches. Overall no significant weather activity till 10th November, he added.
As per MeT officials Gurez in Bandipora received 4 inches of fresh snowfall on Thursday Gulmarg 4 inches, Minamarg 4 inches, Sonamarg 2-3 inches, Pir Ki Gali 6-8 inches, Keran, 5 inches, Machil 3 inches and Sinthan top pass 5 inches.
Several areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Reasi, Poonch, Ramban and Kathua districts received rains.
Razdan top received fresh snowfall late at night while light rain showers were recorded in lower areas. Fresh 2 inches snowfall accumulated in Razdan pass.
Meanwhile, a traffic police spokesman said subject to fair weather and better road conditions on Tuesday LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs/Load Carriers shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, he said.
On Sonamarg-Leh road, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0730 hrs. to 1100 hrs.
Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, the spokesman said.
He said SFs Convoy, plying from Srinagar to Kargil, shall leave Srinagar at 0800 hrs. SFs Convoy plying from Drass to Srinagar shall plan their movement in such a manner so that Civil Traffic doesn’t get disturbed.
