Pulwama, Feb 12: In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, Pulwama Police conducted a proactive operation resulting in the apprehension of two notorious drug peddlers and the seizure of illegal substances.
Officials said that the operation unfolded during a routine NAKA duty on Circular Road Pulwama near Maizban Hotel on Monday.
They added that during the interception of a vehicle bearing registration number JK13H-8135, officers discovered alarming evidence, leading to the arrest of Riyaz Ahmad Wani and Faizan Gul.
“Both individuals, residents of Looswani and Dangerpora respectively, were found in possession of illicit substances,” the officials said, adding that a meticulous search yielded a substantial quantity of Heroin concealed in the driver’s pocket.
The officials said that two slabs of Charas, two digital weighing machines, and a pack of 10 insulin syringes were also seized from the other occupant of the vehicle.
The officials said that despite questioning, neither individual could provide a credible explanation for the presence of the contraband.
“Consequently, Case FIR No. 30/2024 U/S 8/20,21 NDPS Act was swiftly registered at Police Station Pulwama, marking the commencement of a thorough investigation,” officials said.
