Kulgam, Jun 19: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kulgam, Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday termed the killing of scientists in Iran by Israel as an “extremely satanic act”, saying that “no other words can describe it”.
Speaking to reporters here, Tarigami expressed anguish over what he described as the continued slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and the recent targeting of Iran for its vocal support of the Palestinian cause.
“As a citizen and a human being, I am heartbroken. Gaza has been turned into a slaughterhouse for many years. Children there are yearning even for water, and now, even the humanitarian aid being sent by foreign countries is being restricted by Israel,” he said.
The CPI(M) leader questioned the legitimacy of Israel’s nuclear capabilities while other nations face curbs. “What name should we give it? Even Satanism would be ashamed of Israel’s actions. And now Iran is being targeted, not just by Israel but by the most treacherous imperialist force in the world, the so-called ‘Pharaoh mindset’ of America,” he said.
He said there was sheer hypocrisy in allowing Israel to possess nuclear weapons while denying the same to others. “I am not in favour of nuclear arms, neither I nor my party, but who gave Israel this authority? Why the double standards?” he asked.
MLA Kulgam added that the recent killings of Iranian scientists cannot be justified under any circumstances. “This is not only about Iran or Palestine, it’s about the conscience of the global community. The world must speak out. If peace is to be established, the oppression by Israel and the imperial backing it receives must stop,” he said.
Tarigami said that while Iran has expressed willingness to cooperate with international nuclear oversight, Israel’s stockpile remains unquestioned. “Iran is a sovereign country, defending its rights. Meanwhile, Israel strikes at will and threatens political leadership. The silence around it is deeply disturbing,” he said.
