Sopore, Jan 20: A soldier who was critically injured during an encounter in Gujjarpati, Zaloora, Sopore, succumbed to his injuries on Monday afternoon, officials said.
The encounter, which began late on Sunday evening, followed a raid by security forces on a suspected militant hideout in the area.
According to officials, the security forces were met with gunfire from the suspected terrorists as they launched the operation. During the gunfight, the soldier sustained serious injuries and was taken to the 92 Base Army Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away due to the severity of his injuries.
As of now, the security forces have cordoned off the entire area, and a search operation is ongoing to track down terrorists. The operation was initially triggered after gunshots were heard in Gujjarpati, Zaloora, prompting a joint search and cordon operation by the police and security forces.
Security forces maintain a tight cordon in the Zaloora-Gujjarpati area while conducting thorough searches.
LG pays tributes to martyr soldier
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tributes to Swr Pangala Kartheek, who laid down his life in the line of duty in Sopore.
“I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Army braveheart Swr Pangala Kartheek. His valour and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The entire nation stands firmly with the family of the martyr in this hour of grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
