Attack on Badal

On Wednesday the attack meant to assassinate the former Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal must make heads to roll.It means many things as far Punjab is concerned.Badal was engaged in penance to wash the sins that might have occurred during the governance of his party the Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD). He was performing the religious duty to seek forgiveness in one of the holiest shrines that is held in esteem not only by Sikhs but adherents of all faiths. At the outset one must salute the police officer who averted the tragedy with his professional alertness. If anything untoward would have happened then it would have surely inflamed the political and religious passions not only in Punjab but the entire nation leading to the law and order problems. Punjab Government must upgrade the security of the public figures who are the soft targets.This incident that has occurred in the premises of the Golden Temple,Amritsar has ignited the memories of the years when Punjab was facing the gruesome terrorism.It has taken decades to bring the semblance of peace and normalcy in the state after numerous sacrifices of the Punjabis and the security forces.Guard cannot be lowered in Punjab as its fall out will be unbearable. This unfortunate incident must be seen in a broader perspective. The sleeper cells that are working to ignite Punjab again in the name of Khalistan must be kept under watch so that no stone is left unturned to keep the state peaceful and progressive. Narain Singh Chaura who fired at Sukhbir Singh Badal has a terrorist record and he has been sought in various acts of terrorism.He has been on the radar of the intelligence agencies for being involved in numerous cases of terrorism in Punjab.He is associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).In Fact he is the only known terrorist of the BKI living in India and is living on bail since 2022.He was accused in the Arms Act case. A million dollar question that needs to be answered by the authorities responsible for the security of the Golden Temple and the VIP’s like Sukhbir Singh Bada-How Narain Singh Chaura was able to reach so close to the former Chief Minister and shoot at point blank range at him? Chaura is almost involved in nearly 25 cases related to Khalistani terrorism.It is pertinent to mention that Khalistan related activities have got traction after the belligerent posturing of Canada. The Canadian Government has left no stone unturned to wreck the relations with India. It has been openly flirting with the pro-Khalistan groups that are working to balkanise India.Central Government must decode the links at all eves meant to destabilise India and Punjab.Another wave of terrorism cant be afforded by India in Punjab.New Dehi must ask hard questions from the Punjab Government regarding the re-emergence of Khalistani terrorist activities. These acts of terror cannot be treated as stray incidents.As there is a probability of involvement of the foreign forces to destabilise India. Involvement of Pakistan cannot be ruled out in the re-emergence of Khalistani terrorism.Internal security measures must be upgraded and borders kept on high alert besides there is an urgent need to keep a watch on the Khalistani elements who are taking advantage of the public places to strikeAn attempt to assassinate Sukhbir Singh Badal is a wake up call that something is coking in Punjab
