Srinagar, Nov 25: The 60th Jubilee Celebration of World Craft Council kicked off in Srinagar on Monday.

The Srinagar city will host the Celebration from November 25 to November 28 after a successful celebration in New Delhi earlier this month.

An official told Rising Kashmir that 15 international delegates from places like Kuwait, Australia, France, the UK, Ireland, and Central Asia have arrived in Srinagar, joined by artisans from around the world, all here to display their craftsmanship of different global traditions.

Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir government, the programme will showcase the rich craft heritage of Kashmir and will share its artistic traditions with the world.

The official said that the delegates started their visit with a “Craft Safari” through the old city of Srinagar, where they got a closer look at Kashmir’s detailed arts and traditions.

He said that they also met with local artisans and government officials to discuss ways to work together in the future.

He also said that the main celebrations are set for November 26 and 27 at the SKICC in Srinagar which will include expert talks on challenges and opportunities in the global craft industry.

A lively craft market will also be set up to allow local artisans to showcase and sell their work, he said.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir will attend a special ceremony on Tuesday to honor local artisans with the prestigious UT-Level Craft Awards, the official added.
