Budgam, Aug 17: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ali Mohammad Mir on Saturday said the party is fully prepared to contest the upcoming assembly elections across all constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters here, Mir said the party is committed to conducting elections in a timely manner. He hailed the efforts of both the BJP government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) in initiating the election process and announcing the dates.
“All parties are prepared to participate in the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP candidates are also ready to contest these elections,” Mir said.
He criticised former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, claiming that he lacked the courage to participate in the elections. “Omar is fully aware of his potential defeat,” he said.
The BJP leader accused Abdullah of misleading the public by suggesting that the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir is imminent. The authority to restore statehood lies with the Government of India, not with Abdullah, he clarified.
“Statehood is a rightful demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. However, its restoration will happen at the appropriate time, as assured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Mir added, “In the parliamentary elections, the BJP was part of the NDA alliance; however, in the upcoming assembly elections, we will contest all seats in Jammu and Kashmir without forming alliances with any other political parties.”
