Urs Sheikh Abdul QadirJeelani (RA): Dr. Farooq, Omar Abdullah greet people on annual urs

Srinagar, Nov 05: National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah Saturday greeted people on the annual urs of Peer Dastagir, GousulAzam Sheikh Abdul QadirJeelani (RA).
In his greeting message, Dr. Farooq paid glowing tributes to HazratGousulAzamDastagir (RA) and said, “People in Kashmir are naturally gravitated towards the teachings of such great men as Dastagir sahib (RA). Known as Muhi-u-Din, his spiritual disposition was evident from an early age.
He was renowned for his visionary capacity, his eloquence, his spiritual attainments and, his scholarly merits.
His extensive writings provide a beautiful exposition of the oneness of god, and unity of being. Kashmiri society and culture has long been shaped by the teachings of such great saints as Piran-e-Pir. Love and reverence for mystics, sages and saints is deeply etched in the hearts of our people.
“Urs like these resuscitate the unique cultural identity of ours and also strengthens the chords of brotherhood. I hope and pray, the Urs acts as a harbinger of peace and prosperity in the region,” he said.
In his greetings message, Omar Abdullah said, “HazratPirDastagir Sahib (RA) sought communion with the Almighty through intense penance and supplications. Kashmir possesses a rich cultural heritage of Sufism. The teachings of HazratDastagir sahib (RA) have further enriched the socio-cultural beliefs of the local population, it is due to the burgeoning influence of mystics like Dastagir sahib that a culture of tolerance emerged within Kashmir society. I hope and pray that the annual urs observance further strengthens the chords of amity, harmony and brotherhood in the valley.”
