Srinagar, June 27: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Police and Civil Administrations to assess the traffic management and comprehensive mobility plan for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
During the meeting, the Lt Governor emphasized the need for zone-wise traffic planning on National Highway-44 in close coordination with relevant departments, District Administrations, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Traffic Police. The objective is to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, efficient parking arrangements, and safe pedestrian operations.
To facilitate effective traffic management, the Lt Governor instructed that time slots for various movements, such as convoys, livestock, vehicles transporting essential items, and horticulture produce, should be duly notified. He emphasized strict adherence to Traffic Advisories, Schedules, and cutoff timings, directing officials to ensure their enforcement.
The Lt Governor further urged Traffic Police, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Border Roads Organization (BRO), and other relevant agencies to augment their personnel and machinery to promptly respond to real-time events and mitigate the impact of breakdowns.
In order to optimize traffic, transit, and travel demand management, the Lt Governor directed Traffic Police officials to utilize Integrated Command and Control Centres effectively.
To ensure effective supervision of traffic management across various divisions, the Lt Governor instructed the Divisional Commissioners and Additional Directors General of Police (ADGPs) to take overall charge of the operations in their respective areas.
Additionally, the meeting focused on the utilization of the Mughal Road and alternate routes, along with the management of public utilities along the Mughal Road and traffic arrangements at Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
During the meeting, Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police (IGP), presented a comprehensive briefing on the action plan devised for the smooth conduct of the Yatra.
Prominent officials present at the meeting included RK Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary (Home); Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police (DGP); Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Public Works (R&B); Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board; ADGPs; Divisional Commissioners; Deputy Commissioners; SSPs; and other senior officers.
