Srinagar: The School Education Department on Thursday said that there will be no homework for the students in the primary classes up to the 2nd grade and only a maximum of two hours a week from the 3rd to 5th grade as per the School Bag Policy 2020.
As per the official circular issued by the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), said that for the primary classes, there will be no homework up to class II and a maximum of two hours a week from classes III–V.
“For the middle schools, from VI-VIII classes, there will be a maximum of one hour a day, which is about five to six hours a week,” the circular said.
It said that for the secondary and higher secondary, there shall be a maximum of two hours a day, which is about 10 to 12 hours a week. Teachers also need to work together to plan and rationalise the amount of homework that they assign to students.
“Further, it has been given to understand that all the concerned teachers of a particular class assign homework without coordinating with each other, thus resulting in a heavy burden of homework for a student,” it reads.
The circular further said that as such, it is impressed upon all the school heads, both government and private, to ensure that the homework to the students is given as per the School Bag Policy 2020 replicated above and strictly adhered to the said Schedule without any deviation.
An official from the Director of School Education told the Rising Kashmir that there will be no homework assigned to students of classes up to the 2nd standard as per the school bag policy 2020.
