Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday made a breakthrough in its ongoing fight against drug peddling, as it arrested four peddlers and seized a large quantity of narcotics from their possession at new bus stand North Kashmir’s Handwara.

According to a police spokesperson, a police team was on duty at the New Bus Stand of Handwara when they spotted four persons who had attempted to flee the police team in a suspicious manner. After searching the suspects, 338 grams of Charas-like substance were recovered from their possession.

The arrested persons have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar from Braripora, Moomin Masood Qureshi from Zargar Mohalla Handwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat from Herpora Handwara and one juvenile whose name has been withheld.

A First Information Report (FIR No.105/2023 U/S 8/20, 29 NDPS Act) has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation is underway.

The Handwara Police have reiterated their commitment to curb drug peddling in the area, and will continue to take action against drug dealers.
