Srinagar, May 02: In a remarkable feat, Mir Iterat Haidri, a young cyclist from Lal Bazar area of Srinagar district, cycled a distance of 1200Km from Srinagar to Chandigarh and back within just eight days to raise awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse in Kashmir. Haidri completed this journey on his bicycle, cycling for seven consecutive days, and taking a day’s break in Jammu to interact with local youth.
Haidri, who has been undertaking such journeys for the past three years, aims to inspire young people to stay away from harmful activities like drugs and adopt healthier lifestyles. According to Haidri, he has been visiting different areas of Kashmir to spread awareness about drug abuse and encourage young people to engage in healthy activities. In 2022, he cycled to Kargil, which is located at an altitude of 8600 feet from the sea level, to deliver his message.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Haidri shared that he started his journey from Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on the second day of Eid and cycled for seven days straight before taking a day’s rest in Jammu. He highlighted that his aim was to spread the message of the harmful effects of drugs and raise awareness among young people about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
This is not the first time that Haidri has undertaken such an arduous journey to raise awareness about social issues. During the winter, he cycled from Srinagar to Gulmarg in minus 12 degrees Celsius to spread his message among nomads in the region.
Haidri’s achievement has been widely appreciated, and he hopes that his efforts will inspire more young people to take up cycling and promote healthy living. With his commitment and determination, Haidri has become a role model for many young people in Kashmir and beyond.
