Pulwama, Oct 08: In a heartwarming celebration of dedication and unwavering commitment to their community and nation, Asiya Jan and Parveena Akhter, members of the Self-Help Group (SHG) under the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) in Pulwama, were honoured with a cash award of ₹10,000 each.
The award was presented to them by Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Government of India, in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the “Meri Mati Mera Desh” campaign.
District Programme Manager, NRLM, Pulwama, Arsheed Ahmad Bhat, said that Asiya Jan and Parveena Akhter have emerged as shining examples of how individuals can create a lasting impact on society when they are determined to make a difference.
“Their remarkable achievements in the campaign, which focuses on sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and rural development, have earned them a well-deserved spotlight,” he said.
He added that “Meri Mati Mera Desh” campaign provided an ideal platform for Asiya Jan and Parveena Akhter to showcase their dedication and hands-on approach.
“Their active participation in tree plantation drives, soil conservation efforts, and initiatives to boost the local economy has not only raised awareness but has also set a precedent for other SHG members to follow,” he said.
The official said that Asiya Jan, with her background in beekeeping, poly houses, and a car service station, has been instrumental in shaping the campaign’s success.
“Her wealth of knowledge and expertise in sustainable agriculture practices has been truly inspiring.
Parveena Akhter, on the other hand, excels in lavender cultivation, handicrafts, and farming. Her skills have contributed not only to the economic growth of Pulwama but also to the preservation of local traditions and crafts.”
The award ceremony, held at Saffron Park Pampore, Pulwama, was a moment of pride for the entire region.
Asiya Jan and Parveena Akhter’s journey from dedicated SHG members to local heroes underscores the power of community-driven initiatives and the spirit of “Meri Mati Mera Desh.”
Their story serves as an inspiration to others, highlighting that change begins with individuals who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work towards a brighter future.
