Jammu, Dec 28: The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Thursday expressed strong disapproval of the government’s decision to increase toll charges at the Nashri-Mada plaza for all vehicles, terming it as anti-people.
In a joint statement, senior party leaders G M Saroori, R S Chib, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Arvinder Singh Micky and Salman Nizami expressed their shock at the doubling of the toll fee, saying it poses a significant financial burden for most travellers on this route.
Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami said the people of Jammu and Kashmir require support and understanding from the Central government, particularly considering the region’s high unemployment rate among youth. He highlighted the limited opportunities for local businesses to thrive, asserting that imposing such substantial taxes on the common people under these circumstances is unjustifiable.
DPAP leaders urged the government to reconsider its decision, calling for fair treatment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir comparable to residents of other states. “Our people deserve concessions and support from the government, similar to what the BJP provides in other states it governs. There should be a consistent approach for the people of J&K,” Salman said.
