Baltal, July 05: To ensure the availability of wholesome and safe food for pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, a registration mela was organized at the Baltal Base Camp on Saturday. The event was held under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and the Rules & Regulations of 2011.During the mela, a total of 46 registrations were issued to food business operators across various categories, including food stalls, tea vendors, and other service providers operating en route to the holy cave. The aim was to bring food handlers under the ambit of food safety regulation and promote hygiene and quality standards. In addition to registrations, the authorities also conducted inspections, awareness drives, and food sampling to monitor and improve food safety compliance. The initiative is part of the broader efforts to ensure that the pilgrims have access to hygienic and safe food throughout their spiritual journey.Officials emphasized that such initiatives are crucial during the yatra season, given the massive influx of devotees and the challenges posed by high-altitude food handling. The Registration Mela reflects the administration’s commitment to maintaining high food safety standards and enhancing the overall experience of the pilgrims.
