‘6th Edition of Fit India School Week’: Series of activities organized across J&K

Srinagar, Dec 25: To commemorate the ‘6th Edition of Fit India School Week’ as part of the Fit India Movement, both government and private schools across Jammu and Kashmir are organizing a variety of activities within their institutions.
An official from the School Education Department of J&K said that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports serves as the Nodal Ministry for the implementation of the Fit India Mission, collaborating with the Ministry of Education and other relevant ministries and organizations.
The initiative aims to motivate citizens to integrate simple physical activities into their daily routines to maintain good health. The Fit India Mission has gained traction, evolving into a widespread movement among the populace.
“The 6th Edition of Fit India School Week-2024 commenced on November 15 and will conclude on December 31, 2024, in all schools across Jammu and Kashmir,” the official said.
“All schools in Jammu and Kashmir are organizing a series of activities over a span of 4-6 days to raise awareness about India’s rich sporting and fitness culture among students, allowing them to demonstrate their knowledge and talents in fitness and sports to the nation,” he added.
He further said that all Chief Education Officers in J&K have been ready instructed to promptly issue necessary directives to the heads of Government and Private Schools in the Jammu division, including CBSE, CISCE, KVs, and JNVs, to ensure maximum participation from students, teachers, and staff in the Fit India School Week 2024 program.
This includes the annual sports day, which will be conducted offline in the summer zone and online in the winter zone, involving stakeholders such as NCC, PETS/PEMS/PELs, yoga instructors, scouts, guides, and members panchyats, local bodies to celebrate this event in a grand manner.
He stated that Fit India Week 2024 is designed to enhance fitness awareness among students, parents, educators, and educational institutions throughout India by facilitating various activities that promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
Launched in 2019, this initiative has grown to impact millions and remains dedicated to broadening the fitness movement within schools, colleges, and higher education institutions. Over the course of five editions, Fit India Week has been celebrated by 1.85 million schools.
Fit India Week 2024 encompasses seven activities tailored for schools, colleges, and universities, which include: 1. Annual Sports Day featuring popular sports and fun games, 2. Debates, quizzes, essay writing, and poster-making competitions highlighting the importance of fitness, 3. Indigenous games, 4. Fitness assessments via a mobile application, 5. Yoga and meditation sessions, 6. A fitness pledge involving teachers, students, and their parents, along with a Fit India Parents-Teachers Meet, and 7. Contests for idea generation and entrepreneurship development in higher education institutions and colleges.
