Srinagar, Dec 22: In a tragic incident, two persons from North Kashmir’s Kupwara district lost their lives due to suffocation in the Barthana area of Qamarwari, Srinagar, on Sunday.
Officials said the deceased were identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Khan and Mohd Yousuf Khan, residents of Kalaroos Paraypora in Kupwara. Both were residing in servant quarters in the Barthana locality, where the incident occurred.
Preliminary reports suggest that the suffocation was caused by inadequate ventilation, a common hazard during winter when heating devices are frequently used to combat the cold. Their bodies were shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for medico-legal formalities.
The police have taken cognizance of the incident and are investigating further.
Such incidents of suffocation are reported regularly during the harsh winter months in Kashmir, often resulting from the improper use of heating gadgets in enclosed spaces. Both the administration and health experts have consistently advised residents to exercise caution.
They highlight ensuring proper ventilation, especially when using heating appliances, to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
As temperatures continue to plummet across the Valley, the administration has urged people to follow safety guidelines to avoid similar tragedies.
