Jammu, Nov 21: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu and former minister, S. Manjit Singh on Tuesday demanded holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir to address growing public issues.
As per a press release, a meeting of Apni Party leaders and workers was organized here at Vijaypur which was chaired by Manjit Singh.
In this meeting, Manjit Singh reviewed the political scenario and developmental issues confronted by the people in Samba and other districts in the Jammu region.
“The people in J&K have been facing great inconvenience since August 5, 2019, in the absence of an elected government. The authorities are not working as per the expectations of the people. Therefore, this situation has given rise to the feeling of alienation,” he said.
“It appears that the authorities are not willing to fulfill the projected demands of the people and hence, the issues have multiplied with growing unemployment in private and government sectors. Unemployment has remained a major concern of the people especially because of the increasing number of educated unemployed,” he said, adding that the scams in the recruitment process have created mistrust among the aspirants of different jobs.
He also raised the issue of the demand for 5 marla plots to the border residents in safer places, water crises in kandi belt, construction of civilian bunkers, canal water supply system, electricity issues etc remained unfulfilled.
“The elected government could have handled issues carefully. Unfortunately, the Panchayati Raj elections and Urban Local Body elections were scheduled, but they were delayed without citing reason,” he said.
He further stated that the government must hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir without further delay. The situation is peaceful and there is no reason to delay Assembly elections, he said.
He said that the development, employment, border resident’s issues, Displaced Persons and farmer’s concerns need the attention of the authorities, but they remain unaddressed for years.
