Jammu, Dec 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s landmark approval of the ‘One Nation, One Election (ONOE)’ describing it as a transformative step toward strengthening India’s democracy and governance.
Chugh in a statement lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership in spearheading this reform, which aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, and local bodies across the country. He said ONOE will streamline India’s electoral process, reduce financial and administrative burdens, and enhance democratic participation.
“One Nation, One Election is a game-changing initiative that reflects Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to building a more efficient and participative democracy. By aligning electoral cycles, we will not only save significant resources but also eliminate the disruptions caused by frequent elections,” he said.
The BJP leader highlighted the historical context of simultaneous elections in India, which were held between 1952 and 1967. “By adopting ONOE, we are taking a decisive step toward a more stable governance framework and fostering greater democratic engagement,” he added.
Chugh also underlined the significant financial savings anticipated from ONOE, pointing out that simultaneous elections could drastically reduce Rs 60,000 crore spent by political parties and Rs 10,000 crore incurred by the government every five years. These savings, he said, could be redirected toward developmental initiatives that directly benefit citizens.
Calling ONOE a historic reform, Chugh said, “This initiative will make India’s democracy not only the largest but also the most efficient in the world. It marks a new era of governance and accountability.”
‘Nation will expose Sonia-Soros links’
Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday accused the INDI Alliance of resorting to devious means to divert the attention of the nation from the Sonia-Soros links.
Reacting strongly to the resolution moved by the INDI Alliance against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Chugh said, “There is a very well-orchestrated strategy to duck the main issue of the Congress’s links with foreign disruptive forces.”
He said at a time when the entire nation is seized with the new-found links of Soros with the Gandhi family, the entire opposition has ganged up against the Vice President, who is also chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
“Their intention is obviously to target a member from the farming family so that the Gandhi family links with the foreign forces are not exposed”, Chugh said, adding that the BJP was determined to expose the nefarious designs of the Sonia-Rahul duo to derail the nation for their vested interests.
He added, “Obviously the Sonia-Rahul duo is jittery about the new narrative that has exposed their under-the-cover operations and in their panic, they are resorting to digressive tactics which the nation would not allow.”
