Srinagar, Nov 02: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday expressed serious concerns over the recent surge in terror attacks in the valley.
Speaking to media persons, Karra called for a thorough investigation into the “intelligence lapses” that may have contributed to the violence.
“While security measures are crucial, there seems to be a significant gap in the intelligence grid that must be addressed,” he said. “The atmosphere being created now seems to differ from the context of these attacks. Those responsible for this violence do not desire peace in Jammu and Kashmir.”
The MLA raised suspicions over the timing of the attacks, particularly following the peaceful elections held in the valley. “After such a successful electoral process involving all stakeholders, the sudden onset of violence is not a coincidence. It raises questions about the motives behind these acts,” he said.
The J&K Congress chief further criticised the government’s stance on statehood, rejecting the idea of “incomplete statehood”.
He said reports suggesting that the Government of India may retain control over significant departments while offering a modified form of statehood have fuelled his concerns. “Any sensible person can question whether these circumstances are being engineered for that purpose,” Karra asserted.
He urged the Government of India to prioritise peace in J&K and called for an independent investigation to uncover the individuals or groups behind the recent violence. “If the government is genuinely interested in fostering a conducive environment for governance, transparency and accountability are essential,” he said.
