Kishtwar, Oct 18: Former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori on Friday visited the fire-affected area of Warwan area of district Kishtwar and met with families who lost their homes and belongings in a devastating fire incident.
During his visit, Saroori listened to the grievances and hardships faced by the victims, who are currently living under the open sky, having lost everything they owned, including their homes, ration supplies, and clothing.
He expressed deep concern about the situation, especially with the onset of the harsh winter season fast approaching. “There is an urgent need for immediate government intervention to provide shelter and basic necessities for the affected families. These people are poor and have lost everything in the fire. The government must come forward to rescue them and ensure their swift rehabilitation before the winter cold sets in,” he said.
The former minister appealed to the government to provide a comprehensive relief package for the affected families. He demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each affected family to help them rebuild their lives, a government job for at least one member of each affected family, ensuring a sustainable source of income, immediate rehabilitation measures, including temporary shelter, ration, clothing and other basic supplies, to provide relief from the harsh conditions under which the families are currently living.
Saroori expressed hope that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had visited the area the previous day, would follow through on his commitments to support the victims. “I am hopeful that the Chief Minister will take practical steps without delay to rehabilitate the fire victims. These families need immediate assistance, and their plight must not be ignored,” he stated.
