Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: SKUAST-K holds plantation drive

Srinagar, Aug 22: As part of global campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” – plant a tree in memory of the mother, SKUAST-K held a series of plantation drives at various places across Kashmir valley. The main event was held at SKUAST-K’s Directorate of Extension, Shalimar campus in coordination with the Department of Agriculture district Ganderbal.
More than 80 farmers along with the officers of the line departments and scientists of the varsity participated in the plantation drive.
Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, who was the chief guest at the occasion, briefed about the importance of planting trees and the campaign slogan “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.
He elaborated that it is a movement that aims to mobilise every citizen of India in general and the people of UT of J&K in particular, to plant a tree as a token of love for their mother and a small measure against climate change. He also emphasized the need to raise awareness about environmental conservation and fostering collective action towards a greener and more sustainable future. Stressing implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), he said a small and marginal farmer can also contribute to minimize the effects of climate change. Later he planted a tulip tree to mark the campaign.
At KVK Anantnag, farmers and members of the FPOs, The Kashmir Valley Walnut Producers Cooperative Ltd Shangus, and The Shehjar Organic Honey Cooperative Ltd, Tral led by the Kendra head Dr Istiyak A Khan participated in the campaign.
