AICTE convenes meet with VCs to empower technical education ecosystem

New Delhi, June 12: The leadership of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) including Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Vice Chairman Dr. Abhay Jere and Member Secretary Prof. Rajive Kumar convened a pivotal meeting today, bringing together Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities across various states.

This strategic interaction delved into an extensive spectrum of issues crucial to the advancement of students, faculty members, and all stakeholders in the educational domain.
Key discussions encompassed topics ranging from Faculty Promotion Issues, Multiple Entry and Exit, to the Concept of Minor Degrees, Institutional Autonomy, Integration of Skill Courses, and Internships with their corresponding credits.

Furthermore, Specializations in BBA, BCA, BMS, Approvals for Working Professionals, Academic Calendar for 2024-25, Students’ APAR ID, Registration on the Study in India portal, Fee Refund Issues for Students, and Placements through the AICTE-APAN portal were comprehensively addressed. 24 Vice Chancellors attended the meeting in person and 3 Vice Chancellors joined online.

In his address to the Vice Chancellors, AICTE Chairman emphasized the pivotal role of core engineering branches in India’s developmental landscape. He reiterated AICTE’s unwavering commitment to fortify core engineering courses and bolster job prospects for students.

He urged the Vice Chancellors to champion teaching and learning in Indian languages, foster synergies between industry and academia, and establish industry cells and wellness centers on every campus. Additionally, he advocated for the integration of core engineering with minor degrees in emerging domains, alongside the introduction of at least two credit courses in Artificial Intelligence.

AICTE Vice Chairman, highlighted the imperative of innovation and design thinking in the contemporary era. Dr. Jere underscored the necessity for institutions to align with market demands, preparing students for industry challenges through programs that foster innovation. He proposed the establishment of Idea Cafés on campuses to cultivate creative ideation and implementation, while encouraging active student participation in competitions like the Smart India Hackathon.

Member Secretary Prof. Rajive Kumar outlined the agenda of the interaction, elucidating AICTE’s initiatives to elevate the quality of technical education in India. Prof. Kumar articulated expectations from Technical Universities and Institutions, soliciting their support in these endeavors. This collaborative meeting signifies a significant stride towards addressing pivotal educational challenges and fostering a resilient technical education ecosystem in India.
