Ganderbal, Jan 23: Residents of Arigoripora in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have voiced their frustration over the prolonged delay in making the newly constructed Public Health Centre (PHC) functional.
They said despite the completion of the building in the Kangan medical zone, it remains unutilized. “We are suffering in the absence of accessible healthcare services,” said Malik Zahoor Ahmad, a local.
He expressed concern over the situation, saying, “The building is ready for use, but we fail to understand why it is not being made functional. Several areas could benefit from it, but currently, no one is addressing the matter.”
Zahoor said the immediate beneficiaries from Larri, Chattergul and nearby regions are forced to travel to Ganderbal or Kangan for essential healthcare services due to the non-functional PHC.
Another resident, Mudasir Ahmad, said the health department officials assured them that the building would be operational within a few days. However, no progress has been observed, he said.
However, an official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, contradicted this information, claiming that the building was incomplete. They cited issues that have been reported to the concerned authorities at an appropriate level as the reason for the delay.
