Srinagar, March 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that 200 kanals of land in Gund-Nowgam of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have been transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department. However, the government clarified that there is no proposal to develop a sports stadium on the transferred land.
Responding to a query in the Assembly, the government said that the land, falling under survey number 259 Alif, was officially transferred to the Industries and Commerce Department through Government Order No. 91-JK (REV) of 2024, dated July 26, 2024. However, out of the total land, only 175 kanals have been taken into possession, while the remaining 25 kanals—which include an Irrigation Canal and an existing school building—are yet to be acquired. Regarding reports that 50 kanals of the land were reserved for a sports stadium, the government denied any such proposal, stating that no plan is under consideration for the development of a stadium on the site.
