The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes over police action against the protesting daily-wagers.
After the Question Hour ended, BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa raised the issue of police action against the protesting daily-wagers in Jammu on Monday. Responding to Randhawa, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the police action was unfortunate and that he would speak on the issues of daily-wagers during the demand for grants of departments under him.
“The police is neither in my control nor your( Randhawa) control. Rather than raising a hue and cry over the issue, you should have voiced concern with the place which is a few kilometers away from this place where their control lies, “Omar said.
Omar further said that the issues of daily-wagers are genuine and that “it is not a financial issue but a humanitarian issue.”
He added, “Lathis shouldn’t have been rained on them. I am sure this concern would have reached the police.”
As BJP legislators demanded regularization of daily-wagers, National Conference (NC) MLAs stood up, accusing them of doing nothing for daily-wagers during the past 10 years. “Shame, Shame,” the NC legislators shouted at BJP. The House witnessed chaotic scenes for 10 minutes, with NC and BJP legislators shouting slogans against each other.
“Dailywageron Ko Pakka Karo (regularize daily-wagers),” BJP legislators shouted.
Amid slogans and counter-slogans, the BJP legislators staged a walkout, accusing NC of betraying daily-wagers—(KNO)
