Srinagar, Sept 07: Hakeem Yaseen, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and candidate from the Khansahib Assembly constituency, has strongly opposed the leasing of mining contracts to outside contractors.
“This policy has taken away the livelihood of thousands of local miners, labourers and transporters,” he said while addressing a rally in Shamsabad.
Yaseen pledged to introduce a motion in the upcoming legislative assembly to roll back the current mining policy to ensure that local people retain control over their natural resources.
The PDF chief also demanded the return of power projects from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to Jammu & Kashmir. “Local electricity should be generated and used within the region to address the ongoing power shortage,” he said.
The former minister called on voters to reject political parties that he claims have betrayed the people of Jammu & Kashmir over the past decades for their “thirst for power”. He urged them to make informed decisions and hold such parties accountable for their “anti-people” policies.
