Kashmir markets abuzz with shoppers ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

Srinagar, June 28: The bustling streets of Kashmir transformed into a tapestry of vibrant colours and echoing voices on Wednesday, as people hurriedly prepared for the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha festival. 
 
Markets across the valley witnessed an extraordinary surge of people eagerly seeking out the finest festival-related groceries and provisions.
 
Amidst the throng, locals could be heard exchanging warm greetings, their voices carrying the unmistakable lilt of anticipation and joy. 
 
Aarif Ahmad, a local shopkeeper from Anantnag told Rising Kashmir that the bustling markets and vibrant crowds during Eid-Ul-Adha bring a sense of hope and optimism for  business .
 
“Eid-Ul-Adha is a cherished time for our community,” he said, adding that the market comes alive with a renewed energy, as families gather together to celebrate and share in the spirit of giving.
 
 
Ghulam Hassan, a local butcher from Kulgam, deftly handled his knife, skillfully preparing succulent cuts of meat, while sharing his thoughts on the festive fervor. 
 
“On the Day of Arafah, the demand for meat reaches its peak as families prepare for the sacrificial ritual. It’s an honor for me to provide the finest cuts of meat to our community during this sacred occasion,” he said.
 
With every step, the Kashmiri markets unfolded new scenes of community spirit. Groups of friends clustered around fruit stalls, exchanging lively banter while selecting the juiciest mangoes and luscious dates for their festive spreads. 
 
Irfan Ahmad, a fruit seller said, “Eid brings us all together, forging bonds that transcend the ordinary,”.
 
 “It’s a time when strangers become friends, united by the shared joy of celebration,” he said.
 
Beyond the palpable excitement, markets in Kashmir valley also served as a sanctuary for cherished traditions. Amidst the hubbub, elderly women meticulously handpicked vibrant fabrics, and said “We take immense pride in adorning ourselves and our homes with beautiful fabrics during Eid,” said Taja Bano.
 
“These traditions connect us to our heritage and remind us of the rich cultural tapestry we belong to.”
 
Amidst the bustling crowd, 65-year-old Abdul Rasheed, a seasoned shopper, said, “Every year, the market transforms into a magical place ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha. The aroma of fresh spices, the sight of vibrant textiles, and the joyous chatter of locals create an enchanting ambiance. It’s not just about shopping; it’s about coming together as a community and celebrating our traditions,”.
 
Among the vibrant stalls adorned with colorful fabrics, 25-year-old Mehvish Hayat, who is a seamstress said, “Eid is a time for new beginnings and dressing up in our finest attire. As a seamstress, I feel immense joy in helping people choose the perfect fabrics and designing exquisite outfits. The market becomes a hub of creativity, where dreams and aspirations are woven into every stitch. It’s a beautiful sight to see families united, eagerly anticipating the celebration of Eid,” she shared with a radiant smile.
 
Chairperson J&K Waqf Board , Dr Darakhshan Andrabi told Rising Kashmir that the bustling markets and the enthusiastic crowds are a positive sign for us, as it indicates a boost in business activities. Jammu and Kashmir. She said have faced economic challenges for years, and this festive season brings an opportunity for revival. “We hope that the festive fervor continues to bring joy and economic growth to our region. May this Eid be a time of blessings and abundance for all.”
 
“I am delighted to see the vibrant atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the community as they prepare for the Eid-Ul-Adha festival. The markets in Kashmir valley truly reflect the spirit of togetherness, generosity, and cultural richness. It is heart-warming to witness families coming together, sharing joy, and celebrating traditions,” she said.
