Kargil/Ladakh, Jan 11: Strengthening its commitment to fostering socio-economic growth in Ladakh, the Indian army has initiated a series of skill development and employment-oriented programmes aimed at empowering the local youth.
These initiatives are designed to equip young individuals with essential skills, enhancing their employability and paving the way for a self-reliant future. The flagship initiative–Skill Development and Placement Drive—commenced on December 21, 2024 in Kargil District.
“The programme witnessed participation from over 850 students hailing from Kargil, Drass, and Zanskar regions. Participants engaged in interactive sessions with prominent recruiters from diverse industries, facilitated through a virtual conference organized by the Indian Army,” a statement issued here said.
It said that building on this momentum, the Indian Army, in collaboration with MS-CASIE, conducted physical counselling sessions for skill development and placement from January 8 to January 10 at the Kargil Sainik Institute (KSI). “These sessions provided detailed guidance and career counselling to participants from different areas,” the statement said.

The initiative has already started yielding tangible results. “Two local youth, Mohd Nawaaz from Baroo and Mohd Hussain from Akchamal Village in Kargil District, successfully secured positions with Gurugram-based Satyam Motors. “They are now enrolled in the firm’s skill development programme with scholarships,” the statement said. .

The unwavering dedication of the Indian Army’s “Forever in Operation Division” (Kargil-based formation) to empowering local youth and uplifting the region’s socio-economic fabric has been widely acknowledged by the community. “Parents and residents have expressed their gratitude for the transformative opportunities provided to their children,” the statement said, adding that through these initiatives, the Indian Army aims to bridge the gap between skill acquisition and employment, enabling the youth to contribute meaningfully to society and fostering a brighter future for the region.
