Srinagar, Jan 09: Two Vehicles involved in reckless racing and dangerous stunts on Srinagar roads have been seized, following public outrage over a viral video that circulated on social media. SSP Traffic City, Muzaffar Shah, confirmed the seizure and emphasized the importance of road safety awareness among the youth.
SSP Traffic City said that the viral video was recorded in November last year. “We had taken immediate cognizance of the video when it surfaced, traced the vehicles, and seized them. The vehicles were initially released after 13 days on court orders, but their owners continued with stunts and dangerous driving. We have now taken action against them,” he said.
The SSP added that the vehicles had been illegally modified, and such modifications would be removed to ensure compliance with traffic rules.
He urged parents to guide their children about the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. “Reckless driving not only endangers the life of driver but also poses a serious threat to others on the road. Responsible citizens and parents must play a proactive role in promoting road safety,” SSP Shah said.
The SSP also appealed to the public to report incidents of stunts and reckless driving. “We conduct regular counseling sessions, but the community must also take responsibility to ensure safety on roads,” he added.
Yesterday the video of the vehicles racing and attempting risky overtakes on a flyover evoked widespread criticism from citizens, who highlighted the increasing instances of dangerous driving in the city.
