Young talent takes centre stage at Abhinav Theatre

Children’s 20-day summer workshop concludes with vibrant performances, art exhibition

Jammu, July 3: The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Thursday concluded its 20-day Children’s Summer Workshop with a colourful valedictory function at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. Held from June 12 to July 2, the workshop introduced over 100 children to the creative disciplines of theatre, dance and painting, aiming to nurture self-expression, confidence and artistic discipline.A statement issued here said that Deepika K Sharma, Secretary of the Department of Culture, J&K, attended as Chief Guest. In her address, she praised JKAACL’s continued efforts in cultural education and talent development. She also commended the children for their enthusiasm, the parents for their support, and the trainers for their dedication. Dr Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head (Jammu), JKAACL, welcomed the audience and highlighted the workshop’s broader objectives. “This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering creativity at the grassroots. The workshop has not only trained the children in the arts but also contributed significantly to their personal development,” he said.Renowned experts guided the sessions. Theatre was led by veteran director Shri Sunil Soni, assisted by Sahil Bazaz. In painting, Suresh Kumar Sharma and Mahua Gupta encouraged artistic exploration. Dance sessions were conducted by Satish Chander with support from Shri Suneel Uppal. Musical accompaniment added depth to the performances, with Purshotam Lal (Pakhawaj), Rakesh Kumar (Dholak) and Sunil Joshi (Harmonium) receiving appreciation for their contribution. The final day featured engaging stage performances and a vibrant exhibition of the children’s artwork, showcasing their creativity and growth over the past three weeks. Sonali Arun Gupta, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, trainers, accompanists, parents, and the organising team. “This workshop has been a celebration of imagination, teamwork, and artistic growth. We are immensely proud of every participant,” she said.
