Ganderbal, Jan 30: Many villages in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district remains cut off due to the heavy snowfall on Monday. However, the delay in the clearance of roads has caused inconveniences to the people.
Locals said that many internal roads that connect several villages with the district headquarter are yet to be cleared of snow which caused hardships to the local populace.
These link roads include Kaloo Mohallah to Gund, main Wangat, , Zirpora to Rezan, Kalas Pati Rayil, NH1 to Ramwari Gund, etc.
“We are facing lot of inconvenience due to administration’s delay in snow clearance. We are unable to shift sick and women in labour to hospitals. There is no connectivity at all,” said a local, Fayaz Ahmad.
Executive Engineer R&B Tatheer Manzoor told Rising Kashmir that snow clearance operation continues and the road length requiring clearance is 650 km and till now 430 km have been cleared.
“Due to continuous snowfall, we face lot of difficulties in removing the snow, but even though the department has removed the snow from the 430 km stretch in the district, so far,” he said, adding “Due to heavy snowfall in the late evening, the snow clearance operation has been stopped. The process will be started in the morning again.”
He said, in the Ganderbal sub-division125 km of road length, 98 km in Lar sub-division, and 90 km in Kangan sub-division have been cleared of snow for which 27 JCBs and 23 tractors were on job. In some stretches where machines couldn’t work, men have been deployed there as well.
Executive Engineer said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and providing all necessary assistance to keep the roads safe and clear for the residents.
