Jammu, Aug 11: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Jammu, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. B.N. Tripathi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), hosted a significant event on the occasion of the release of 109 new agricultural and horticultural crop varieties by the Prime Minister at ICAR New Delhi.
The event, which featured a Kisan Sammelan and a farmers-scientist interaction, saw active participation from local farmers and rural youths. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director of Extension at SKUAST-J, presided as the Chief Guest, while DDC member Vidya Motan attended as the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Vaid highlighted the potential impact of the newly released climate-resilient crop varieties on enhancing agricultural productivity. Vidya Motan praised KVK Jammu’s efforts in improving the socioeconomic conditions of the region’s farmers.
Dr. Punit Choudhary, Chief Scientist and Head of KVK Jammu, welcomed the participants and emphasized the Kendra’s commitment to advancing the welfare of farmers in the Jammu region. The event also included a discussion on schemes under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and an online training session for farmers.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Prem Kumar, Scientist (Fisheries), and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Amitesh Sharma. The event was further supported by S. Satbir Singh, who ensured its smooth execution.
