Jammu, Feb 08: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Rajouri-Poonch range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal on Wednesday termed the drug menace as the “biggest challenge before society”, saying it requires a collaborative approach from all stakeholders to curb the evil.

“Stringent action as per the law will be initiated against those involved in drug peddling,” DIG Rajouri-Poonch said while chairing a civil society interaction meeting at Mendhar sub-division headquarters.

The officer said that parents and guardians have a vital role in keeping a close vigil on the activities of their wards. “This is the first and most important tier of prevention towards drugs,” he said and called for collective efforts to nip the menace in the bud to safeguard future generations.

SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra, Commandant JKAP 6th Battalion Suram Singh, SDPO Mendhar Sheezan Bhat, SHO Mendhar Neyaz Ahmed and other police officers posted in the sub-district were present in the meeting.

Dr. Haseeb also held a meeting with the representatives of the chemist association of Mendhar and sought their cooperation in eradicating of drug menace from society.

During the meeting, a discussion was held on the issues related to the proper implementation of norms for the working of chemist-drug stores across Mendhar.

DIG Rajouri-Poonch asked all the chemists to install CCTV cameras in the shops and drug stores and ensure that no drugs and medicines are sold to minors and without the prescription of doctors. He asked them to ensure that the daily sale register and prescription register are maintained properly.

The DIG Rajouri-Poonch also impressed upon the PRIs and the general public to come forward and share information on narcotics and the movement of anti-national elements to thwart enemy designs. He asked them to keep supporting law enforcement agencies to ensure peace in the region.
