Kulgam, Jul 07: A 55-year-old man was killed on Friday morning when lightning struck in the Gudder area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to locals, the lightning struck the Gudder area in the morning hours killing a local resident on the spot.
“Though he was rushed to hospital, doctors declared him dead,” they said.
They have identified the person as Abdul Hameed Khan son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, a resident of Gudder village of Pahloo Tehsil.
Arshid Ahmad, a local, said the deceased had taken his cattle to the field for grazing when the lightning struck him.
“The deceased belongs to a poor family. He has an unmarried daughter and two sons. We request the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam to help the bereaved family with possible support,” he said.
Showkat Hussain Rather, Tehsildar Pahloo told Rising Kashmir that they sent a team to the area after hearing the incident and that they are processing their case for assistance.

“Unfortunately, lightning struck and killed the man in Gudder. The incident took place at around 10.30 am. We sent the Naib Tehsildar to the area to assess the incident and we are processing their case for assistance under norms on speedy track,” Tehsildar said.
Kulgam and elsewhere have been receiving light to moderate rainfall since Thursday night.
Meanwhile, State Spokesperson, JKNC Imran Nabi Dar, and others condoled the tragic death of Abdul Hamid Khan. They offered condolences to the grieving family besides praying for eternal peace to the departed soul.
