Srinagar, Apr 10: The Jammu Kashmir Music Artists Federation, an umbrella body representing several leading cultural organizations of the region, held an important meeting today in Srinagar to deliberate on key issues concerning the promotion and preservation of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural and musical heritage.

The meeting brought together eminent artists and representatives from diverse musical traditions, including Ustaad Mohammad Yaqoob Shaikh and Shabir Ahmad Saznawaz—celebrated Sufiyana maestros, Ab. Rashid Hafiz and Gulzar Ahmad Ganai—legends in the field of folk music, as well as renowned Sufi and light classical artists like Waheed Jeelani, Ajaz Rah, and Assad Anjum.

The members expressed deep concern over the current cultural scenario and emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures from relevant departments and organizations to ensure effective propagation and presentation of the region’s unique art and music. The Federation also discussed policy-level interventions and collaborations required to provide meaningful platforms for artists and safeguard the intangible heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
