Srinagar, Aug 01: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, on Thursday inaugurated the distribution of 40000 DFLs of Silkworm Seed for Autumn Silkworm Rearing and Rearing Stands at the Main Grainage, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar among the Silkworm Rearers of Kashmir Division. This initiative is aimed at doubling the production of cocoons in J&K, as envisioned in the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Sericulture J&K emphasized the importance of concerted efforts by officers and field functionaries. He urged them to work on a mission mode to raise awareness among Silkworm Rearers, Farmers, and Youth about the various schemes, including HADP, and the facilities provided by the department. “Our goal is to enable a large number of people to benefit from these programs and earn a dignified livelihood through their engagement with the Sericulture Department,” he stated.
The Director also directed the employees working in the Manager Seed, Main Grainage, Srinagar to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in their workplace. “Creating a blissful environment in all Offices and Silkworm Seed Units is essential for effective functioning,” he added.
In addition to inaugurating the distribution of silkworm seed, Mr. Bhat participated in a plantation drive, “Ek Ped Shahidon Ke Naam,” where he planted a tree to honor the memory of martyrs.
This event marks a significant step towards enhancing the sericulture industry in J&K, aligning with the broader goals of HADP to boost agricultural and Sericultural productivity in the region.
The Additional Director, Sericulture Dev. Deptt., Kashmir, Development Officer, ISDP Sonawari, Project Executive Officer, Srinagar District Sericulture Officer, Srinagar/ Budgam and other Officers of the Department were also present on the occasion.
