Srinagar, Jun 30: Continuing its campaign “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq”, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra, on Monday reaffirmed the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to fight for the rights of the people and to restore the “lost dignity and honour” of Jammu and Kashmir.Karra said that the culmination of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir exemplifies Gandhi’s relentless efforts and unwavering dedication to justice, not only for the people of J&K but also across the country, which is currently facing “unprecedented challenges”, along with “assaults on democracy and democratic rights” under the BJP rule.Addressing a large gathering of workers at a convention in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, a border district, Karra said the “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” movement was launched to strongly advocate for the restoration of statehood to J&K without further delay. “Under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Party has made the Modi government accountable and answerable to the people, and that their diversionary tactics will no longer succeed,” he said. The JKPCC chief referred to Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra as a historic movement in Indian history, saying that no other leader has travelled thousands of miles solely to “defend” democracy and its institutions, except Rahul Gandhi. He praised Gandhi’s relentless fight against the BJP’s “onslaught and injustice, which has exposed the Modi government’s policies of lies and deceit”.“Every Congress worker and leader across India stands firmly behind Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, who are fighting against the dictatorial policies and political vendettas aimed at suppressing the genuine voice of opposition,” he added.Karra criticised the current national situation, saying the Modi government has no concrete policy for empowering people or promoting development. Instead, he said, it is “systematically eroding” democratic rights and institutions to “hide its failures and oppress dissent”. “BJP’s vendetta politics has been fully exposed,” he said. The J&K Congress chief also touched upon the annual Amarnath Yatra, calling it sacred for the people of Kashmir. However, he questioned the silence surrounding the Pahalgam incident, where 26 innocent people were martyred in a tragic carnage. “Kashmir has always carried the Yatra on its shoulders. Who will shoulder the responsibility for the Pahalgam tragedy?” he asked.Senior Congress leaders at the event, including Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, called for increased public outreach programmes to identify and address issues faced by the people. He said the dual control of J&K has exacerbated problems, causing suffering over even minor issues.MLA Advocate Irfan Hafeez Lone said that under Karra’s leadership, the Congress Party’s “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” movement will intensify its fight for the restoration of J&K’s statehood, which he affirmed is a fundamental right. The convention was also addressed by senior leaders such as Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Kupwara DCC President Javed Ahmad Mir, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Iqbal Mir, Haji Farooq Mir, along with various block presidents and prominent leaders from Kupwara.
