Srinagar, Jan 25: : Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, VK Bidhuri, on Saturday said that connectivity plays a crucial role in Kashmir’s development.

Speaking at 15th national voters day here, Bidhuri highlighted the significant changes witnessed over the past few years, particularly in terms of law and order, which has paved the way for progress.

“Three or four years ago, nobody could have imagined that a hotel would be running in Sonmarg during Chilli Kalan,” he said. “Having been here for three years, I can confidently say that the change we have seen, with the support of the people, has brought normalcy in law and order, and everyone is participating in it.”

He reiterated that peace is a prerequisite for development and added that improved connectivity, such as rail projects, will unlock new growth opportunities in Kashmir.

Regarding the ongoing geotagging of Chinar trees, Bidhuri underscored the importance of these iconic trees, stating that they are an integral part of Kashmir’s heritage. “Geotagging is a significant step, and we have a good plan in place to include more trees in the future,” he said.

Bidhuri extended his greetings in advance for Meraj-ul-Nabi (SAW) and Republic Day, acknowledging the efforts made in organizing the events. “Yesterday, the Deputy Chief Minister visited, and the best possible arrangements have been made. I wish everyone all the best in advance for Republic Day. There are no restrictions, and I encourage people to arrive early to secure proper seating.”

Reflecting on the National Voters’ Day and past elections, Bidhuri praised the efforts of election officials and the public’s enthusiastic participation. “During the last general and parliamentary elections, people participated actively, and the Election Commission of India recognized our efforts with awards. I congratulate everyone involved, from DOs, EROs, AEROs, BLOs, BLAs, to political parties, for ensuring free and fair elections with no instances of re-polling,” he said.

He expressed hope that the same enthusiasm and commitment would continue in future elections and reiterated the crucial role of connectivity in the region’s development.

“Connectivity is a very important and crucial factor for us. The improvements in rail connectivity will lead to new development opportunities,” he concluded.
