Jammu, May 02: The Inspector General (IG) of BSF, Jammu Frontier, DK Boora, on Thursday said that the infiltrator, who was shot dead by the alert troops on Wednesday along the International Border (IB) in Samba, could have been part of a bigger infiltration plan. He said that the slain intruder was sent to conduct recce of the area and test the alertness of troops for a potential infiltration attempt.
While talking to media persons during his visit to a forward post, the IG BSF said, “The intruder might have been sent to conduct recce of the area and assess the security along the border besides alertness of the forces”.
Pertinent to mention here, the troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted an infiltration bid on Wednesday night at Samba’s Regal post along the IB and killed an infiltrator. The body of the intruder was retrieved from the spot on Thursday.
“The troops noticed movement from across the border around 8:15 pm on Wednesday and it was closely monitored, the IG said, while adding, “The intruder first approached the border and then crossed the International Border”.
He said that despite being challenged by the troops, the suspect continued to advance aggressively. “Even after being challenged many times he did not halt, leading to the troops firing at him”, he said.
IG said, “There is a gap in the embankment near the spot of the incident and also a gate, which is usually closed”.
Adding, “The intruder attempted to breach the border. “There is a possibility that he was being followed by more individuals from across the border but they were not visible to the troops”.
“Had the intruder succeeded in sneaking in from across the border, others who might have been observing him would have followed him as such tactics are used at the border,” he said.
