Srinagar, Nov 05: The higher reaches of Kashmir including Gulmarg, Sonamarg and other parts experienced light snowfall on Saturday evening, while light rain lashed plains in most parts of valley.
Higher reaches of ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded two to three inches of a fresh snowfall, while Sonamarg received three inches, Gurez two inches, Tulail and Machil four inches each. Besides, two to three inches of snow was recorded along few spots on Zojila-Drass highway.
Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that higher reaches experienced light snowfall on Saturday evening and prevailing weather conditions will continue till Monday.
“We are expecting widespread rain and snowfall during November 6-7,” he said.
Lotus said there is a possibility of two to three inches of snowfall in the plains of south Kashmir during 6th to 7th November and two to three feet snowfall over higher reaches.
He said snowfall and low temperatures may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation, mainly over Zojila, Mughal Road, Sadnatop.
“As per present conditions, there is 70 percent chance of snowfall in higher reaches and rain in plains on November 6-7,” Lotus said.
Owing to cloudy weather conditions, the minimum temperatures have dropped further in Kashmir valley.
On Saturday, Srinagar recorded 15.6 °C as the maximum and 5.6°C as minimum temperature. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 12.0 °C as the maximum temperature and 0.5°C as minimum temperature. It was the coldest place in Kashmir.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 17.3 °C as the maximum temperature and a minimum of 2.0 °C. Qazigund recorded 15.4°C and 4.6° C as the maximum and minimum temperatures respectively.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 17.7°C, while minimum temperature here settled at 4.7 °C.
