Baramulla, March 10: Residents of Kandi Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have expressed resentment over the poor condition of the road which passes through the Dangiwacha-Pazlpora area.
The authorities had earlier started work on the road but have not completed it.
Locals from the area told Rising Kashmir that they have been suffering for years due to the “pathetic” condition of the road.
“Nobody is listening to our grievances for years. The administration is not repairing and macadamizing the road,” said Mehraj Ahmad Mir, a local.
He said the poor road condition has resulted in many problems including an increase in travel time and water logging. “There is a long pending demand for repairing this road but the administration is least bothered about it,” he said.
As per the residents of Kandi, the work on the road was started years ago but it was completed only till Chanam, Rafiabad. “Since then, the authorities are not restarting the work,” they said.
The locals said the road acts as an important connecting link for Kangaroos Palpora and Zithen, and several areas. Thousands of commuters and transporters pass through this road daily but it is dotted with huge potholes.
“Due to the bad condition of the road, we are unable to reach our destination on time. It takes a lot of time to reach school,” said a student Ifayat Ahmad.
AEE R&B sub-division Watergam told Rising Kashmir that they are ready to macadamize three kilometers in May but the Jal Shakti Department has delayed its work to remove water pipes in the remaining portion. “We will look into the matter and start work as soon as possible,” he said.
