Srinagar, May 17: In a significant move aimed at improving public transportation and passenger comfort, Srinagar has announced the introduction of 100 electric buses as part of its ‘Srinagar Smart City’ project. The initiative, led by District Development Officer Aijaz Asad, emphasizes the adoption of clean and sustainable technologies to revolutionize the city’s transportation system.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad shared that the procurement of 100 buses under the Srinagar Smart City project is progressing smoothly and will be completed in the near future. This strategic project aims to overcome the long-standing challenge of reliable public transport infrastructure in Srinagar, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience for both locals and visitors.
The upcoming electric buses are equipped with advanced features such as a panic button and a positioning system, designed to enhance passenger safety and comfort. Passengers will also have access to real-time bus tracking, information on occupancy rates, and expected arrival times, providing a seamless and efficient travel experience.
In response to passenger demand, Srinagar has already introduced new minibus and car services within the city. This proactive measure aims to address specific issues raised by passengers and underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing safety and accessibility.
Authorities have conducted studies to identify and construct routes for minibuses, targeting previously underserved areas. Currently, trial runs are being conducted on these routes, and the introduction of regular minibuses will further complement the existing transit system.
With a focus on clean industrial vehicles, the Srinagar government is dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility solutions. The introduction of electric buses aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change. It also reaffirms the city’s status as a Smart City, embracing innovation and environmental consciousness.
As the procurement and commissioning of the 100 electric buses near completion, expectations are high among the people of Srinagar. The project represents a significant milestone in the city’s development, introducing new modes of transportation and serving as a model for other cities to follow. Srinagar is poised to witness positive changes in its public transport system, promising a brighter and cleaner future for all its residents.
