Baramulla, June 26: District administration Baramulla today organised a vibrant awareness programme at Kashmir University North Campus Delina to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event was held under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and aligned with this year’s global theme “Break the Cycle”. #StopOrganizedCrime.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, was the chief guest, while Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, attended as the guest of honour. The event witnessed participation from students, officers of various departments, and civil society members.
Addressing the gathering, DC called on youth to take the lead in raising awareness against substance abuse. He stressed that collective efforts from families, educational institutions, and communities are vital to building a drug-free society. He also appreciated the contributions of volunteers and organisations working in the field of de-addiction and prevention.
SSP highlighted ongoing enforcement efforts to dismantle drug networks and urged citizens, particularly the youth, to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities. He reiterated the importance of community involvement in both prevention and intervention.
Programme featured a signature wall, plantation drive, selfie points, and the screening of an awareness video developed by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
