Doda, April 14: The NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Doda Saturday marked the 134th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar—the principal architect of the Indian Constitution—with a solemn pledge‑taking ceremony followed by a ‘Pad Yatra’ from the college to the Clock Tower.
Under the guidance of Dr Javid Iqbal, Principal of GDC Doda and chief guest, nearly 200 students pledged to uphold the Constitution’s core values and the spirit of its Preamble. Dr Tanveer Hussain, NSS Programme Officer and organising secretary, urged students to transcend individual differences and foster unity, while Dr Iqbal stressed that true tribute to Ambedkar lies in striving for equality and brotherhood. He also encouraged female students to pursue their studies with determination, highlighting the vital role of educated women in nation‑building. The ceremony was supported by Dr Jaswant Singh, NCC Officer and Physical Director, and attended by faculty guests of honour—including Prof Davinder Kumar, Prof Satish Kumar, Dr Sandeep Kotwal, Prof Sudesh Kumar, and Prof Sandesh Kumar—as well as representatives of the Doda police administration.
Following the pledge, participants set off on a Pad Yatra to the Clock Tower, symbolising collective homage to Dr Ambedkar’s enduring legacy. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof Sudesh Kumar, Assistant Professor of Political Science, underscoring the college’s commitment to Ambedkar’s ideals of justice, liberty and fraternity.
