Jammu, Sept 26: Shiv Sena (UBT) on Thursday announced conditional support for Congress candidates in the final phase of the assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. The party called on the voters to “teach a lesson” to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which it claims is fostering dictatorship and arbitrariness.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club in Jammu, Shiv Sena (UBT) state chief Manish Sahni expressed support for Congress candidates Raman Bhalla (RS Pura), Taranjit Singh Tony (Jammu Bahu), and Yogesh Sawhney (Jammu East).
“The need of the hour is to stand against those who violate the rights of local people,” he said, citing concerns that became evident during the first two phases of the elections.
He said the voters are determined to complete the task on October 01 and will show their resolve on October 08.
Sahni said the Congress leaders have consistently advocated for the interests of Jammu, addressing pressing issues such as smart meters, property tax, toll plazas, corruption, crime and unemployment.
He said the BJP’s treatment of Jammu & Kashmir has led to a certainty of their “political downfall” in the region.
Sahni was joined at the conference by Vice President Balwant Singh and Secretary Rajesh Jandayal.
