Ganderbal, Dec 2: For the first time, the Power Development Department (PDD) in collaboration with a panchayat body has started installing new electricity transformers in remote areas of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, bringing cheers to the faces of the people.
Sarpanch Circle Gund (B) Ghulam Nabi Kaloo said he was constantly receiving complaints from the people that the electricity transformer in the area is often facing glitches, causing immense problems to them.
He said the panchayat body has given funds to the PDD for the installation of four new transformers, transmission lines and iron poles in their circle so that people do not have to face difficulties in winter.
According to the Sarpanch, the electricity transformers got damaged during snowfall. “Now, we are installing new transformers to provide facilities to the people,” Kaloo told Rising Kashmir.
The Sarpanch said he is grateful to PDD employees “who worked day and night” to install these new electricity transformers.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Junior Engineer (JE) Power Development Department Basharat Ahmad said, “We have installed 44 new electricity transformers in the whole sub-district Kangan, including the required LT and HT. Almost 90 percent of the work on it has been completed.”
The JE said this year the PDD has installed four new electricity transformers from Sarpanch’s funds in Gund (B) which includes two upgradations of 63Kv at Lal Pati and Tedwa Pati of Gund Ako.
“We have also installed 63 KV transformers in Khan Mohalla Gund and we are going to install another transformer in New Colony Gund which will provide a lot of relief to the people,” he said.
