New Delhi, June 25: In a historic first, the Jammu and Kashmir Policehas been recognised among the best-performing police forces in the country for its exceptional contribution to passport verification services for the year 2024–25.
Based on official verification data, J&K Police completed an impressive 1,34,219 passport application verifications during the period Arpil-2024 to March-2025 reflecting an exceptional disposal rate and a commitment to timely service delivery.
The award was presented by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) during the observance of Passport Seva Divas, commemorating the enactment of the Passport Act, 1967. Celebrated annually, the day marks the establishment of the statutory framework for the issuance of passports and other travel documents by the Government of India.
This year’s high-level event was held at CB Muthamma Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, New Delhi, and was graced by PabitraMargherita, Minister of State for External Affairs, along with senior MEA officials, representatives from 37 Passport Offices across India, officials from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and key service partners.
A major highlight of the event was the formal recognition of J&K Police for its exemplary performance in police/CID verification, a critical step in the passport issuance process.
This recognition stands as a testament to the relentless dedication and professionalism of the officers and personnel from the CID and Police Departments, who went above and beyond their routine duties to ensure swift and secure passport verification. Their efforts have brought national pride and recognition to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The prestigious Certificate of Recognition was presented to Rayees Mohammad Bhat (IPS), DIG, CID, who received the award on behalf of J&K Police.
This is the first time that J&K Police’s commitment to efficient passport verification has been formally acknowledged at the national level.
